Giveaway: Treats for Chickens Fall Organic Bounty

I have had the pleasure of working with Treats for Chickens for almost 5 years. It is amazing how quickly time flies and companies grow. Still true to its roots, Treats for Chickens is a family run business out of California. Many years ago the owner, Dawn, had a vision of providing her flock with organic, non-GMO treats. At that time no one else in the market was even really considering that concept. In fact, keeping chickens as pets was only just beginning to take hold. I was lucky to stumble upon Dawn’s business all those years ago, because, I myself was on a similar journey with my family and my flock seeking out an organic lifestyle. I call it a bit of kismet!

Giveaway: Treats for Chickens T-Shirt + Goodies

It’s that time again!  Have we got a treat for you and our flock!  Our fantastic sponsor Treats for Chickens is giving away goodies to our subscribers again.  This time there is an “I Ate The Worm” t-shirt in the size of your choice and two 1 pound bags of their Pumpkin Seed Snacks for your flock!

Our Pumpkin Seed Snacks™ are a lot more than just pumpkin seeds. Loaded with organic pumpkin seeds, organic buckwheat groats, organic quinoa, organic cracked corn, organic flax and organic sunflower seeds, organic alfalfa leaf, organic coconut and marigold petals. Hand feed, mix with food or sprinkle on the ground as a treat for your chickens. For Porridge: add 2 cups boling water to 1 cup ‘snacks’, simmer 5 minutes, remove from heat, cool to room temperature and serve. Pumpkin Seed Snacks™ is a great mixture for the whole flock: chicks and pullets love the smaller grains and seeds while the older, wiser and mature feathered fowl go for it all. It’s an irresistible snack! Either way it’s a great goodie and treat for happy chickens to have. Does not contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives – and, is darn tasty!

They didn’t even mention that pumpkin seeds are a great natural de-wormer for your flock too!

If you haven’t taken a moment to visit Treats for Chickens than you are missing out.  Even before they were a sponsor of Tilly’s Nest, they have been my go to place for unique, organic, treats and goodies from my flock.  They have 12 original products exclusive to their company. Others have tried to copy two these twelve original products (Mealworm Delight and Nesting Box Blend).  They are that good! Do your flock a favor and pay them a visit!

Giveaway: Grand Opening Celebration

One thing that has always been important to me with my flock is feeding them as I do my family, organically.  For many reasons, we have chosen to go organic and three years ago, I wondered if there was a company out there that believed in similar values.  To my surprise and happiness, I discovered Treats for Chickens!  Long before they were a sponsor of ours, I religiously placed my orders for treats, supplies and the like; trying every product they carried.  Fast forward to today.  I am happy to celebrate with them as they open their very first retail store!

The first TWO customers to enter their new retail store located at 606 Portal St., Cotati, CA 94931 and tell them “Tilly Sent Me.” during their grand opening celebration between 11:30am and 1 pm will receive a free bag of Worms and Harvest Flakes!  There will also be free giveaways and prizes as well as 25% off your entire purchase on that day in the store.

If you live too far away like me, don’t fret! We can still celebrate!  From now until midnight PST- September 30, 2012 you will receive 25% off your entire order and you can also enter below to win this amazing giveaway prize pack valued at almost $40!  Enter Tilly25 at checkout.

This awesome giveaway is for three of my very favorite products!

~Organic Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (2 pound bag)- I have yet to find organic food grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) anywhere else, but maybe that could be because I have never looked any further.     Treats For Chicken’s DE is reasonable priced and the quality is top notch.  I have never purchased my DE from anywhere else.  I use the DE when I clean out the coop.  I also add 2% volume to their food supply.

~A Pest Pistol–  This tool is amazing!  Fill it with food grade DE and blast the DE into all of your coop’s nooks and crannies without any need for a ladder.  It is important to not only treat your nesting boxes, roosts and coop floor with DE but also the nooks and crannies of the ceiling.  Mites and other insects can lurk there.  With a blast of DE, from the Pest Pistol, you can be sure that you are treating every inch of your coop for predatory bugs. Be careful to cover your nose and mouth and avoid inhalation when applying DE, long term chronic inhalation  can lead to silicosis.

~Nesting Box Blend (4oz bag)- Treats for Chicken is the ORIGINAL company to develop aromatherapy for chickens with their blend of dried herbs and flowers for chickens.  After I clean the coop and add DE, I sprinkle about a tablespoon of nesting box blend into each nesting box.  It is wonderful and helps to make the egg laying process less stressful.  The aroma is delightful and I swear that everyone lays an egg on the days when I clean out the coop!

Giveaway: Nesting Box Blend from Treats for Chickens

Years ago, I had a desire to spoil my pet chickens.  I was looking for a company that specialized in organic chicken treats.  Three years ago, I happened to stumble upon Treats for Chickens one evening while surfing the internet.  Immediately I fell in love with their products, their philosophy and their organic practices.  I placed my first order for their Nesting Box Blend and their organic food grade diatomaceous earth (DE).

The Nesting Box Blend is simply amazing!  The blend smells heavenly and is made from an assortment of dried herbs and flowers.  I like to think of it as aromatherapy for chickens.  It is said to make their egg laying process less stressful and it also keeps mites and lice away from the flock.  Habitually, each time I clean out the nesting boxes, I sprinkle about a tablespoon of the Nesting Box Blend and a teaspoon of DE  into the bottom of each box.  I finish off the boxes with a thick layer of pine shavings.  As I am cleaning the coop the girls know exactly what I am doing. They eagerly anticipate exploring the nesting boxes after they are cleaned.  The best part, is that I swear everyone lays an egg on the day I clean out the coop!  Three years later, I cannot imagine my girls’ lives without these two products!

Over the years, I always find myself trying new items from Treats for Chickens to my order.  I have tried and swear by both of their chicken toys.  I love to add a teaspoon of the Cluck and Sea Kelp on top of their weekly plain yogurt treat.  In the heat of summer, my flock loves me to make them refreshing tea in one of their waterers.  I also spoil the girls like crazy in the Winter when they cannot get out and free-range as much.  This past season, they were treated to Meal Worm Delight, Worms and Harvest Flakes and Pumpkin Seed Snacks.  Three years later, I still religiously place my order every few months.

This past month, I was approached by Treats for Chickens to become a sponsor of my website.  To celebrate, we both thought that giving away their famous Nesting Box Blend (4 oz size) would be a fantastic treat for our followers!  I hope you will check them out for yourself.  They are another wonderful example of a small family run business, whose heart is truly in every product they create.

Chickens Stories from Our Nest

A Package Addressed to the Chickens

Well, the girls are officially know as “The Feathered Ladies of Tilly’s Nest”!  This package arrive a couple of days ago for them.   I placed an order from Treats for Chickens last week.  I was so touched by the thoughtfulness of their company to personalize the address label.  It brought a great smile to my day after the sadness of my last entry about Chocolate.
I bought all sorts of goodies for the flock.  I purchased electrolytes with probiotics, Nesting Box Blend, a Pest Pistol for my friend to use with the food grade Diatomaceous Earth, and something new; Full Crop Pumpkin Feed Snack.  I cleaned out the coop today and as I was doing so, I sprinkled the pumpkin treat out in the run.  They went berserk over it.  All the chickens loved it.  They also love getting the Nesting Box Blend sprinkled in the freshly cleaned nesting boxes.  It is like catnip for chickens.  I have never heard so much chicken talk as they scratch in the shavings to discover the delicious tasty morsels.  I am glad that the package arrived on Valentine’s Day.  I wanted to get the chickens something special too.
Chock full of goodies

Thought you would want to know, I receive no financial incentives from Treats for Chickens in mentioning their products.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!  Even the chickens are getting treats.  I ordered a few things including more Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, a treat ball, nesting box blend and a pest pistol.  Boy are those chickens spoiled!

I love the diatomaceous Earth.  See my October 2010 entry Fossils for Chickens for more information about it.  I also ordered the girls a treat ball.  It can be stuffed with all types of vegetables and goodies to keep the girls occupied from boredom.

I have always been intrigued by the nesting box blend.  I thought, why not give it a try!  Here is their exact description of the nesting box blend.  I could not have said it better.

Think of this as a daily way to ward off the creepy crawlies and bugs that love to bug your chickens. Adding Nesting Box Blends to nesting boxes during regular scheduled cleanings keeps your chickens calm and free of mites, lice etc. Can be used along with Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. Contains 100% organic, fair trade herbs, flowers and oils blended for a soothing and bug free egg laying experience.
Younger chickens often experience stress when they begin to lay eggs. Even older experienced layers can feel stress from time to time. Allow this special and caring formulation to benefit laying hens of all ages – your eggs will be even more wonderful!

You will find all of the above mentioned treats at http://www.treatsforchickens.com/

So with that said, hope you find yourself with some human treats of your own on this very special Halloween day.
