Just a little over a week ago, I took a trip down to Washington, D.C. to be recognized for my book, A Kid’s Guide to Keeping Chickens. I won one of the AAAS/Subaru SB & F Prize for Excellence in Science Books. I am a bit embarrassed to admit, but I had no idea how prestigious this award was. I am so honored to be recognized next to such accomplished authors. While at the meeting, I was able to meet amazing scientists from diverse specialties who we, as a society, can thank for the scientific advances they have pioneered. The conference was a global event where countries from around the world were represented, some even presenting results of their latest research. I was thrilled to be a part of it all!
I am so excited to announce that I have received word that my book, A Kid’s Guide to Keeping Chickens, has won the 2016 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Subaru SB&F Excellence in Science Books Award! It was such an honor to be a nominee and placed among these fabulous finalists.
Hello friends! I am just thrilled to announce that I am giving away 4 weekend passes to the Country Living Fair coming up on June 5 through 7th at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds located in Rhinebeck, New York in the gorgeous Hudson Valley. Each pass is valued at $40 and includes the early bird admission. This will be my second time attending this fair and it is not to be missed! There are tons of amazing vendors, food, presentations, book signings, and meet and greets.
Have you ever been to a Country Living Fair?
Well, let me tell you as a long time fan of Country Living Magazine, they are just awesome!
The magazine simply comes to life with presentations, demonstrations, fabulous food, and amazing vendors. There is something for everyone, especially inspiration.
I’ll be there this weekend to chat about chickens and do book signings on Friday and Saturday. So I hope to see some of you there. I’d love to meet you in person and I’d love to hear what treasures you find too!

The other day, I received a lovely note from Nicole of Windy Willow Homestead. I was so excited that she picked up a copy of my book for her daughter. I was also thrilled when she reached out to do a giveaway of one of her lovely fabric coiled baskets and a set of her latest soap adventure- Old McDonalds Farm Collection. This adorable set features a rooster, hen, cow, goat, and horse. They are cold processed and the scent is a refreshing combination of fresh Georgia peaches and ripened raspberries, with a dry down of vanilla.
