Upcycled Spring Terrariums

spring terrariums

I tend to keep things that most people would consider junk or recyclable. You never know when you can upcycle items into beautiful crafting creations. Some of my favorite items to keep are the glass jars and their lids from foods. Salsa jars are perfect! I remove the labels, wash them in the dishwasher, and set them aside for crafting projects, like these upcycled spring terrariums.

Rainbow Blooms

Tilly's Nest- colored carnations-001

Winter has been hanging on this year and despite the fact that spring is less than 10 days away. We still have snow on the ground and are expecting more tonight. During these final winter days, I love to fill my home with fresh blooms. Somehow they get me over the final hump as I anticipate getting into my gardens. These rainbow blooms did not disappoint.

Floral Pins

This week I’m sharing my latest craft for HGTV Gardens. My early 2014 assignments had to do with weddings. Taking inspiration from the gardens and my daughter’s tutu, I decided to make a craft that is not just for weddings. I created this versatile clip that can be featured in the hair, on the wrist, pinned to a dress, or even on a lapel. I have never liked the idea of wearing a dress, or accessory for only one day, so you can do what I have done here. I skipped the wedding and added this flower to my jean jacket. You certainly don’t have to have a wedding to make these. There is nothing like getting a few good friends together over a bottle of wine, chatting and crafting together! Head on over to HGTV Gardens for all of my step-by-step photographed directions.

Make a Fairy House

One of my favorite things to do with the family is tend to our fairy garden.  Each year we add to our sweet little miniature worlds. Click here to see our backyard chicken fairy garden. This year, I created a coastal inspired fairy house just for our garden that I had the pleasure of sharing over on HGTV Gardens. The coastal pine forests, sand and sea were my inspiration.

A Leprechaun Garden

leprechaun garden
If you too have been trying faithfully to catch a Leprechaun like we have in our household for years, this leprechaun garden might just help you succeed.  We always seem to fail.  They dye out toilets green and they drop their golden chocolate coins, but they never stick around for long.  This year, we crafted a miniature leprechaun garden like we have done outside to attract fairies.  With a trip to the craft store and local garden center, this is a great weekend garden craft to enjoy with the family.

Spring Flower Arranging

Over the past few weeks, we have had some major doses of snow and wintry weather in the Northeast.  Feeling frustrated, I went to Trader Joes’ and picked up some spring blooms. I also trimmed some budding Forsythia branches from a bush in my yard to create this cheery spring bouquet.  Spring flowers always brighten my day, no matter how gloomy it is outside. I shared how I created this bouquet and a few others from the same stems over on HGTV Gardens this week.
