I’m such a lover of frozen fruit. Have you ever tried freezing grapes, melon and bananas? They are a fave around here and this past week, I wanted to create a delicious, healthier, summer treat for the kids. Instead of calorie-filled ice cream, these frozen chocolate banana pops were a breeze to make. When I was little my Mom used to freeze the bananas that were on the edge of tossing. Later, she’d give them to us frozen or use them for banana bread. Nothing ever went to waste in our household. Last week, my daughter had a sleepover with her friend, little did she know that I had popped in some bananas the night before. While they slept the bananas were freezing.
I don’t know who was more excited about making these pops- the kids or me! We used Smucker’s Magic Shell. We used the chocolate version, but there is Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Pretzel, Mint, and even Caramel. The trick is the magic shell. It hardens in seconds! Instead of melting chocolate in a double boiler on the stove or in the microwave, this treat is 100% kid friendly and free from the risk of kiddos burning themselves. They could even make these at home alone. I love that! Because the shell hardens quickly. Its really a 2 person job. One of the kids held the banana and poured on the chocolate while the other added the toppings.
This post was originally created for the the DIY Network, but now as of 2022, it is no longer published on their website. In fact, the DIY Network is now sadly no more. Despite the link below, here are the full details for you:
Here is what you need to get started!
Rainbow nonpareils sprinkles
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then cut ripe bananas in half and insert a popsicle stick into the bottom. Pop them in the freezer until they are completely frozen.
Next, remove the banana from the freezer and working over a dish or protected surface, drizzle the bananas with Chocolate Magic Shell and quickly add the toppings to your desire.
Enjoy the bananas right away or return them to the the cookie sheet. Cover and store in the freezer until ready to enjoy!
