The girls recognize the chubby mealworms. You can see them waiting at the run’s door for me!

If your flock is like mine they LOVE to gobble up dried mealworms.  Recently I learned about Chubby Mealworms. I hadn’t heard of them before so I was excited to learn about a new company. I think you can guess by their name what they sell…mealworms and other dried bugs, just up the chickens’ alley! They graciously sent me a bunch of samples for the girls to try.

Mealworms are a wonderful source of protein for your flock and a healthier treat choice. Of course, because mealworms are a rich food source, just a few per chicken is what is recommended for feeding. The protein from the mealworms promotes feather growth, especially during molting. They also help to produce beautiful eggs as well. Mealworms can be tossed out dry onto the ground for your flock. You can also soak them in a bit of warm water to “bring them back to life”.  What I like to do for my flock is mix a handful of mealworms into their morning scratch. They chickens love it! They always hunt for them first.

Is it true that the early bird gets the worm?

As I opened the bag of Chubby Mealworms, I was very impressed with the size and quality of the mealworms. These mealworms were “plump” and their entire bodies throughout the bag were intact. Sometimes, with inferior mealworm products you get pieces of mealworms but not here. These were shiny and clean and smell just like mealworms should smell. I know it’s crazy to get excited about dried bugs, but I knew the girls would go crazy for them and I was right!

I’m excited to share that one of you is going to win this huge 3 pound canister of mealworms! This canister makes a perfect storage container for the mealworms. It also can double as a chicken toy. Simply drill some holes into the lower part of the canister’s side. Then hang it in the run and have your flock peck at the holes to release the mealworms. Let the chickens peck at the toy for about 30 minutes and then remove it. You don’t want them to over indulge. When worn out from use, drop the canister into the recycle bin and order another one! I know you are going to love this company, so go ahead and enter to win below and be sure to check out the Chubby Mealworms website for a 10% off your order deal!
