Giveaway: Chicken Coop from My Pet Chicken

April 2, 2012

A few years ago, I decided to make my dream of owning chickens a reality. It was a huge leap into the unknown for me. I had researched, read and talked to a few people that I knew of at the time keeping backyard chickens. I was nervous, but I decided to go for it. The worst that would happen would be that I didn’t care for it and someone would have to take my chickens and I would sell the coop. The turning point for me in taking the step to chickens was finding and discovering My Pet Chicken.

Their website was amazing. I drooled over chicken coops that they had available. I even called up their customer service a few times just to talk and have a few questions answered that I could not find answers for on my own. I was impressed but mostly, they helped me believe in myself and that I actually could keep chickens.

You see, a few years ago, there was very little information out there in one good concise place where people who kept backyard chickens could go for answers. This was a place that seemed to understand my goals, situation and needs. I felt as though they held my hand every step of the way even after my chicks had arrived. I owe my chicken keeping to them.

Wonderfully, I soon discovered all about the fascinating world of backyard chickens. I was hooked. I started a blog for a number of reasons. First, I wanted to keep a sort of online journal about their stories, findings and lessons that I learned from the flock. Second, I had found myself compiling and bookmarking information on certain topics that I wanted to learn more about. I decided to start writing posts about these issues and referencing my bookmarks in them to make it easier to find a truly comprehensive place to store things that I was learning. Lastly, I wanted to be a voice. I wanted to be a person that encouraged those that were still on the fence about keeping a flock in how easy and rewarding a keeping a flock could be.

Here are the basics for starting out:

First, you will need to determine which chicken breeds are right for you and your family. Here is an awesome tool that only My Pet Chicken has to help you find your way. This helps you to stay focused as there are so many beautiful breeds and eggs.

You will need to set up a brooder. Did you know that My Pet Chicken makes it simple with their brooder kit? I love this and this makes it so easy! I also did a helpful post on brooders that can be found here.

As the chicks grow you can find lots of information online from My Pet Chicken here and also here from Tilly’s Nest.

Finally, you will need to find a chicken coop and run to keep your six week and older chickens safe and happy. It will need to have a run, roosts, nesting boxes (1 per 4 hens)

The Giveaway
Clubhouse Chicken Coop
from our generous sponsor My Pet Chicken
for 3-4 standard chickens or 6 bantams

front of the Clubhouse
inside the Clubhouse

This coop also makes a great brooder and hospital for those who already have a coop or are intending on keeping a larger flock. You can read more about this coop here.

  12. Hi, I would love to have this coop. We have had chickens for 2 years now, and are in love with them. OUr flock keeps growing. This small coop would be perfect for our Bantams when they go broody, or for our chicks, before they get large enough to put in the big coop with the adults. = Amy , jnpayne33@yahoo.com.

  13. I love the information available to us as chicken lovers. Thanks for sharing!! I am currently raising 12 baby chicks in my kitchen as the coop is not ready. A friend of mine is giving me an additional 4-5 bantams. My kids are going to college and joining the Marines so my chickens will fill the Empty Nest Syndrome-lol.

  16. Mrsbrady@roadrunner.com
What a generous giveaway! We have chickens on hold until next spring because we can't build a coop in time. My mom just passed and all of our spare time is being spent getting my dad moved to an apartment. This would allow us to get chickens this year! Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Sarah link61181@yahoo.com I have been dying to start my own backyard flock but have no where to keep my ladies!! What an excellent offer to win this coop! 🙂

  18. This is awesome! I have a big shed with chickens, but lately the newer chickens are being picked on by the older guinnies. I need another area for the 2 bullies! My name is Debbie and my email is DebbsHereNow@aol.com. Thank you so much for this chance!

  20. I love the Coop design & I'm so glad I found your site. I want to get started on Buckeye chicks – I haven't had a place for Chickens in a while and I'm excited to get them again. Thank you – Lorrie lavolily@gmai.com

  21. Judy hezik2@windstream.net

Would be great to win a coop! We had a few chickens in with our guineas that were free ranging, but the chickens wouldn't hang out with the guineas in the barn. They decided they liked the bbq grill on the front porch to roost upon! O.O So, they got rehomed to someone with a proper coop, and so I either need to get a coop, or screen in the porch to keep them off it, before I can try chickens again.

Have a great day! Thanks for the giveaway chance!

  22. I have been enjoying your BLOG for the last month, as I found you through My Pet Chicken. It would be great to win as my Birthday is the 13th of April and this would be a great gift. Your story about starting your own flock sounds alot like me. Thank you for all you share. Donna.stone51@verizon.net

  23. I love this coop! We already have chickens that we keep for eggs, all purchased from My Pet Chicken. My husband and son built a nice coop for them but my daughter is wanting to start raising Sumatra's for show chickens as part of her FFA project. We will have to have a separate coop and yard for them and this would be perfect!

  24. Oh Wow! This is awesome. I grew up on a farm as a child. The one thing I regretted most for my children was that they would never have a chance to experience the joys of country living like I did. A year ago we built and moved into our house, on our own land. The first thing we did was build a chicken coop & run. My children love going out to gather the eggs. Your website is wonderful. Thank you for offering this wonderful opportunity to someone who otherwise may not have been able to afford it. Jamie
    mccormick_jamie@hotmail.com

  25. This coop would be perfect for my yard! I'm so excited for the opportunity to win it! I've been wanting to add a coop and hens especially since each home in my neighborhood came with one cow and chickens when they were built in 1937! Love your site and love My Pet Chicken! Thanks… Deborah debs7429@yahoo.com

  26. Oh, this would be perfect for my Seramas. I'm keeping them separate from my other chickens, and this would be a palace for them!

  27. Like you in the beginning, I have been getting ready to embark on the chicken journey for the past few years and found great help from backyard chickens. I haven't made the chicken leap, but each year I learn more and feel more prepared. The best way I guess would be to jump in and get support from your blog and the website. Hopefully I will win this fabulous coop and have no more reservations about getting started this spring.

  28. I love MPC! We've been raising chickens for 2 years now, and MPC was our resource before we took the plunge in to chickendom. Loved their chicken tool for choosing the right breeds! We're on our third batch of chicks now and are going to be adding a fourth later in the spring. Thanks to all these wonderfully dedicated hobbyists who make taking the plunge that much easier 🙂 Julie julietteberto@hotmail.com

  29. Being a new chick mom, I have scoured My Pet Chicken's site and your site for information. The best part is all the sharing of others who are chick lovers. The coop is beautiful and would be much loved by our 'girls'. Good luck to everyone in the drawing. Susan @ sdoty2@frontier.com

  30. I too recommend the MyPetChicken website often for new flock owners and those considering flock ownership. Great user friendly place for info, great way to help them begin to learn. My son has been wanting to give a couple of chickens their own place away from the rest of the flock to work with them, and breed heritage birds, this would be a great place to do just that. Keep up the blog! Erin- fitnesserin@ourpatriotsdream.com

  31. Our 14 yr old son talked us into getting chicks last year. In all, we got 7 and 6 of them turned out to be roosters! So as of now we have a Rhode Island red hen and rooster. Quite a couple. She is faithful in laying one egg a day after waiting almost 9 months to start laying. I gave up on her and one day in January looked in our coop and there was a pile of 9 eggs! It was hilarious and I was so tickled. My husband and I now love having them and just bought 10 new chicks. A new coop would be fabulous and I suspect we are going to need another. We thought we might have a little village. 🙂 Lisa klg5_2000@yahoo.com

  32. This would make an awesome addition for our pretty girls! My children would love to have a chicken hospital! We are currently in the process of building a coop for our 11 girls as a family!

  33. Hi! We just got chickens a couple weeks ago. They were evidently sick so I have had to learn chicken medicine and get them better already and it worked! I have a temporary tractor for them, not quite big enough for the 4 of them, but they seem to enjoy it. My name is Heather and my email is karpadm76@yahoo.com. Thanks so much for the give-away!!

  34. Lori (elle@ellesniche.com) Very excited about this giveaway. I had wanted to start a backyard flock for about two years and was a little intimidated to do so. I found a "chicken lady" here at the local feed and bought my girls locally. I have to say that raising chickens ha been a very rewarding experience. The ladies have such personalilty and each is different. My children have been eager to help and it is a wonderful way to teach responsibility! Happy Tilly hunting!

  35. I would love to win this coop, I also started with My Pet Chicken last August. It has been the greatest experience owning chickens. raised two boys, who I am proud to say are in the military, and now, thanks to the help of My Pet Chicken, I finally have my girls. michellegentry67@yahoo.com

  36. My Pet Chicken has been my favorite website for go to help and info when I've needed it, new to the backyard chicken community last year, I've had to visit it quite a bit. We have 5 lil bantums that have decided to take residence in our Duck House, they aren't big fans of the our standard chickens so they snuggle with the ducks at night. I would love for them to have their own space and let the ducks get theirs back.

  39. Hi, thanks for the opportunity. Built my shanty coop out of "free" pallets, living on a chicken feed budget. 🙂 Gotta plug some holes, put up a roof (it's a tarp right now) the sun will wear on it I'm sure. This would be a mansion in comparison. Checked out the site, great information. Judi jke11yhome@yahoo.com

  40. Chickens are wonderful. Thank you for sharing information and pictures. I love your blog. I found My Pet Chicken a few months ago and agree with you that educating the public is a great way for them to have a good relationship with their chickens. How to take care of baby chicks all the way to first aid kits you need to know how to take care of your flock. Sparklemommy@yahoo.com.

  41. fivejeagle@bellsouth.net This may sound silly, but I NEVER thought about using a coop like this as a half-way house to protect my babies. And I am in need of something now as the same evening I put a batch of 6wk old chicks in my henhouse, something robbed the duck nest in the same building. Now what do I do? None of my adults were hurt, but the live traps will be out tonight. I'm just hoping the adults will protect my littles ones. If I had that coop in the picture above, I wouldn't have to worry.I am giving it some serious thought! Christie Albertin.

  42. I would so very much love to have this beautiful coop! I'm in the process of researching what I'll need to start our flock and keep them happy and healthy. My son has just discovered that he loves eggs so we're all really excited to make friends with some laying hens!

I was excited to see this giveaway! My family has a small flock of chickens but we live in the middle of town. 55. I would love to win this coop to give to a friend of ours. He is an architectural draftsman and has been out of work for 3 years. 56. What a great giveaway! We've talked about raising chickens for a couple years but the cost of a coop for an inner-ring suburb lot (with hawks, racoons, cats, and dogs in the neighborhood!) has been a little prohibitive. But even if we don't win, I know this coop will become a great home for some wonderful birds! tambyrd@comcast.net

  57. I have been doing all I can to learn about raising chickens for eggs – reading, looking at websites and talking to folks who have chickens of their own. I have psyched myself up and am determined to begin my small flock this summer. Winning the coop would be a great way to begin! Cookcm@stny.rr.com

  62. I have been dreaming for a couple of years about having chickens. My boyfriend and I had decided to wait till we sell our homes and buy one together before we get them, but the economy has made that a very slow coming dream. It could take a couple more years. I dont want to wait a couple more years. I am leaving it up to fate. I told him if I win a coop than its fate we start our family now. If not we wait till either we move or win. Come on fate. Im tired or reading about them, I want to start living with them.

  64. I returned to my country roots and realized the joys of raising chickens just yrs ago and I couldn't be happier. My children all have their favorites. I find watching their antics to be very therapeutic and calming when lifes stressors become overwhelming. They are very intelligent, social creatures and I can't imagine life with out them in it. I hope to win this coop for my 15 yr old daughter who just started breeding sebright bantams. She home schools and works part time on a horse ranch. The bantams just stole her heart! thank you for hte contest opportunity. my name is Evy and my email is Evy666vondoom@aol.com

  66. This is like a dream come true! My husband was going to build our coop until a wind storm dropped two pines on our house:( It's an exciting time and a sad time dealing with baby chicks coming this Friday and now finding help to remove trees. We are very grateful that our children and doggie were inside at the time the trees fell! Mike leaves in ten days to head back out to sea for three weeks and there is a lot to do to get ready for chicks and cleaning up the tree mess! I am going to look real hard to find those emotions on my pet chicken. Love your blog and love chickens!! Michele Greer sheargreer@gmail.com

  67. I am a single mom with six kids my youngest is 5 yrs. She would so love having chickens to care for! We have wanted to have chickens for years and not having a coop has been THE factor that has kept us from it. We have an acre of property on the edge of a very small town. We live next to my mom. She has such a big heart that as stray cats kept being dropped near us she just spayed & neutered them and gave them their shots. We have 10 cats, they are well fed but still need a coop for young chickens to be safe! This is a great give away! Thank you so much for the opportunity! Patti kidsncakes@gmail.com

  68. I am with you on MyPetChicken.com, that site gave me the confidence I needed to know I could handle raising backyard chickens! The cost of a coop has been the final obstacle holding me back, so this beauty would be dream come true. My email is candace.weiss@gmail.com. Either way, thanks for the chance to win!

  69. This would be a great little coop for my 5 year old daughter, she's been pondering for months what kind of banties she wants to show. She does most of our stuff in our big coop if we let her so this would be her own great little piece of chicken heaven.

  70. I love your website and winning this chicken coup will be just the motivation I need to start a campaign against the unfair ordinance again pet chickens in our town. I hope I win. Thanks! Candice mrshaase@gmail.com

  71. I have wanted chickens forever and now that my husband and I just bought a house we can have them Yay! Now we are just needing a coop and the ladies to live in it. I love my pet chicken and feel that it is a great place to find answers and calm fears about owning chickens.

  72. When I found "My Pet Chicken" I almost did a happy dance. I'd decided this was the year I'd start with a few chickens, and the site has answers to all my questions. And then to have this blog as support… even closer to having a dream come true. Right now finances are tough, and I've been looking at various coops to build using recycled materials, your coop would be akin to someone else winning the lottery! I just recently did a funeral for a woman (I'm a pastor) who lost her husband in a tragic, unexpected accident. She shared with me how the chicken flock has helped her with the grieving journey. She stated how both she and her husband took care of the chickens, and the fact that she had to let them out of the coop every morning gave her a reason to get out of bed. Since this is something they both did together it brings a sense of her husband being right there with her. She brings me eggs every once in a while; beautiful blue, green and brown…since hearing her story and reading stories on the internet, I really want to add these cute little guys and gals to my family! My name is Deb and my email is deborahmarypollex@hotmail.com

  73. We love My Pet Chicken. Our flock originated from their hatchery. We would love to have an additional and separate coop to house our 4H hens. This giveaway seems to have come as a sign from GOd. It would be a blessing and an answered prayer to win a new coop.

  74. I just ordered my first chicks on Friday from MPC…. so excited! And this is actually the coop I was planning to order for the new girls! I just discovered your blog last week as I'm researching my new adventure, and I have been poring over all your previous posts. Thank you so much for the wonderful giveaway! Ryan (rdawkin@hotmail.com)

  75. I am enjoying this blog. My Pet Chicken was recommended at a Garden club meeting about urban chickens a few years ago and it interested me even though chickens were illegal in my city. Since then I have acquired three beautiful silkies from MyPetChicken, the city has changed their regulations and I have ordered more chicks. I'm hooked on chicks. Judy

  76. That is a lovely coop. My husband and I built one of our own, but this has some wonderful additions. I am so pleased to come across your sight and my chicken raising frinds will be checking it weekely. We are banded together in this new experience and totaly revel in getting to know our chickens. Thanks for the insight.

  77. my name is samantha this would really be amazing to win! we have two roosters right now (no hens) who we adopted from a farm who takes in unwanted/homeless farm animals. this coop would make it possible to get some hens for our boys! sammybabe_20@yahoo.com

  80. What an amazing coop! We could really use this for my daughters' 4H Cochins that desperatley need their own little coop, since they are now trying to sit. With this Roo and Tangled would have a place all their own to raise their babies. If she were to win this she would be one very happy little girl! She just loves raising chickens and will even be showing at a National Poultry show this month. Thanks again for a great giveaway!

I have ordered 5 Silkies from My Pet Chicken and they will arrive around April 10th. I love the chicken coop and think that my little chickens would look adorable living in it. Great website and blog!!!

  84. Yes, help! Need another coop to accommodate some new chicks we have coming in early June from My Pet Chicken! This is our second order in three years. We started out with nine three years ago this June, and there are three healthy and happy survivors. Maybe they will take the new coop and our new ones can have the bigger coop?! We shall see. Either way, thanks to My Pet Chicken and our love for our fine ladies, our chickens will be well taken care of and pampered. Thanks so much! Heidi–slowmoe@mwt.net

  85. Everything I know about raising chickens I learnt on MPC and now I know even more after hunting down the Tillys and reading new topics! What a great way to educate. The Clubhouse is my dream coop so my fingers are crossed. Thanks, Vicky vickykummell@me.com

  86. Hi there,

I got my chicks which are scratching away inside their box in the utility room. Purchased 6, one was a cockerel and one died but have 2 dark brahmas, 2 buff orpingtons (one a fella) and one speckled sussex. They could use a home, especially since we will likely be having our own little chicken offspring. Isn't that just the way it goes? I'll cross my fingers…that's a nice coop!
    pauline…………. pchrt6@aol.com

  89. Our adventure with Chickens started just a month ago after my husband pestered me for over 3 years to raise chickens. Now I could not be happier to have started raising chickens. I never would have suspected that chickens could have so much personality and be so much fun to have around. I must say the coop that you are giving away is very beautiful. It would be a blessing to have such a beautiful coop in my yard.

  90. Hi all, My name is Rose, email is bakr3@aol.com My granddaughter is the owner of our fantastic little flock of 10 chickens, we are going to add more this summer, she has all different kinds of chicken and her favorite is a little white chicken with a couple of black dots on her back, she raised them from babies and feeds and cleans with me everyday. She gives a dozen eggs away free to a family in need and a dozen to her teachers at school, she is always so proud to be able to help. I am hoping to win the coop for her as she also wants to add more silkies and some polish chickens to her collection. Thank you

  91. Wow! Such an amazing opportunity. I would love to have a coop I could keep in my yard, so the girls could free range. Here's hoping!

  92. Winning this would be amazing this is our first. Time with chicks and like u I didn't think I could do it but we are trying! All this info is going to be awesome as I have had tons of questions and no where to go but a friend for the answers . Please include me in the contest! Coleneandersonphotography@hotmail.com

  93. My daughter (who is in LOVE with chickens) has the job of finding all the tillies.

Have you seen the book: Tillie Lays An Egg? Your webpage reminded me of that book.

    • Yes, the book is just darling. We discovered it after we launched the blog. I am now even friends with Terry Golson, the author. Talk about a small world 🙂

  94. Just got our chicks 2 weeks ago. My husband and I are so excited to get started. Got lots of great information from mypetchicken.com and now have found this wonderful site. 95. hi, we homeschool and as you know that means we need to try out everything and chickens were on the list. also my daughter has a few problems with hormones and we can only give her fresh eggs. I tell you, these girls make me feel great to just watch them walking around and the kids just love them. they even bring them in the house. I would really love to give them as much pleasure as they have brought us. getting them into a nice coop that isn't an old rabbit hutch would be great. we have 3 wonderful girls, one for each child and mommy wants one too, just the right size for this coop giveaway. deborah. deborahleemeyers@yahoo.com

  97. Thanks for the chance to win! This will save me the weekend project of building a bigger coop. Emily emilyvannort @ hotmail.com

  98. I just talked my mom into allowing me to raise chickens! The only condition was that I had to supply the coop. Being a full time student with a crappy low-paying job it has been a challenge to save for a nice coop. This would be beyond perfect!!! Fingers crossed! Thanks,
    Caitlin Roske
    Roskecv@gmail.com

  99. Oh holy smokes, how awesome would this be? We have a sneaking suspicion our 3-4 chicken sized coop is a little small for our 4 chickens, since two insist on sleeping on the roof at night. *sigh!*

This coop would be absolutely superb problem solving. Thanks for the opportunity! stephshere@hotmail.com

  100. My first round of chicks should be hatching (from My Pet Chicken!) today. We are so excited.
Dana dana (at) mattevans (dot) org

  101. Karen/Ohio I live in the city and looking into how I can keep a few chickens. Your blog has been very useful, as well as, My Pet Chicken website. My biggest concern is will keeping chickens, no matter how small a flock, create an odor that my neighbors will complain about? earthheart49@gmail.com

  102. Love Your site as I am just starting my own flock. This coop would be perfect!Cschanz105@aol.com

  103. I am always looking to better my chickens life, including their house! I have 5 older chickens and just got 11 more babies. They are growing up quickly so I need another house for them. It would be so awesome if I won, I have never won a thing in my life! Great contest and good looking coop!

  104. A new coop would be wonderful. We live on a farm and have an animal rescue so money is very tight. We have two small coops which were built with reclaimed materials so they are not very pretty but do the job. I have 12 hens and 3 roosters, most of them were rescued when our nearest neighbor decided not to have chickens any more and tossed them into the forest. It took about a year to catch them all and we lost many of their chicks to predators during that time. Since then we have hatched a few more and now we sell their eggs to support them. A new coop would mean more space and maybe a few more hens.
    Dianne, lighthouse_animals@sbcglobal.net

  105. Hey! My name is Samantha and my e-mail is Scarsofhope420@aim.com! I am a beginning "farmer" so to speak and I have just recently ventured into the world of chickens! I have 10 chickens so far, 2 Bantam Roosters and 8 little ones! 7 hens and 1 little fella! At first it was my husband that wanted the chickens and I was a little skeptical because I didn't know anything about them. I have fallen in LOVE with them! Right now they are in a dog kennel with a netted run that I actually just built myself yesterday. They are growing so fast and need more room to roam! Please help me and my little flock grow and gain this experience together! Thank you so much for this opportunity to be able to enter!

  114. Well, I never win anything, but since it's my birthday and we're ordering our chicks from My Pet Chicken next week, I figured we'd need a coop! So, here's my comment, on this post, hoping to win.

  115. I have been playing with the idea of raising my own backyard flock for a long time now, but I was scared that I would not be knowledgable enough and that my birds would suffer due to my inexperience. I have loved all animals since I was a very young child and the though of harming any just kills me. My pet chicken has helped to answer so many of my questions and finally gave me the confidence to try this out. I have been doing hour after hour of research the past two weeks, often staying up past 5am because I want to be as knowledgable as I can possibly be. I will finally be going to the local feed store to pick up my first chicks this Wednesday!!! I am still very nervous both I know that there are many chicken lovers that will answer my questions and help me along the way. This is an awesome contest and whoever ends up winning this wonderful coop is going to have some very happy chickens. 🙂
    My name is Wan-Chi w.punga@hotmail.com

  116. I would love this chicken coop. This is my first time raising chickens and I tell you it's been so exciting who knew raising chickens could bring so much joy into our lives. Even my 5 year old grand daughter is loving it and learning how to take care of chickens. We have a old green house that we are using as a temporary coop and would love to have this coop. I have 3 chickens right now that are about 5 weeks old and we just started keeping them outside in the green house and they love it. I am purchasing 4 more baby chicks it is just so enlightening to see these chicks grow up and be part of the process. So please consider me for this beautiful coop it would make my chickens very happy and there owner would love it..

    Martha tommygrl1972@yahoo.com

  119. What a wonderful coop. Since moving to a new state I have not been able to set up a home for some chickens. Leaving my little flock of 4 when I moved was the hardest thing to do. I found them a good and safe home, but miss them terribly. (Monroe, Stella, Penny and Princess) Having a coop would be a perfect way to convince my husband that we could have chickens in our suburban area.
    Rhonda
    rhonda@netonecom.net

  120. I was just about to start building a coop with pallets. I think I'll wait a couple of weeks. I would love to see my future chickens live in this palace! Keeping fingers and chicken feet crossed!

  121. (Jennifer g_fer25@yahoo.com)I was so excited when I read about this giveaway. While reading your blog I felt like I was the one saying all these things. I grew up with chickens, but really my dad did all the work, I just helped and did what he told me. I am getting ready to get my own chickens now and I've been reading, researching, & asking everyone I know (or run into at the feed stores) about chickens. I am planning to get 4 Dominiques. I remember driving half a day with my dad to go pick up chickens & when we got there it was a box of the prettiest little black bitties I've ever seen. The lady told me they were Dominiquers and as they grew they just got prettier. I only resently found out that they are the oldest American chicken, but they are also on the watch list for endangered species. I can only hope my little flock will win this wonderful coop so we can do our part to bring this wonderful breed back to where it should be. Fingers crossed, hope to receive a winner email.

  122. Love my little chickens! And my daughter would love the coop for the silkies that she plans on getting. Thanks for a great blog.

    Katherine (katherinescottage@yahoo.com)

  123. I just started raising chickens last year with a friend's cast offs and love finding the eggs everyday. Most off the eggs are given to senior citizens and an unemployed friend. I'm hoping to get more hens soon and this coop would be wonderful to have.

Julie ~ jacobhouse@kanokla.net

  130. Being a girl who, when growing up in a ranch house on 1/4 acre of land, was told year after year that having a pony and a lamb and some chickens was "out of the question," I now long to fulfill my dream of having a few "girls" out back as beloved pets who can peck around my lawns and basque in the sun of my big huge formal herb garden. This little coop would fit so perfectly inside their manicured boxwood walls. Keeping my fingers crossed but congrats to whoever the lucky winner is! Ginger anetemso {at} gmail {dot} com

  152. We would love a new coop to use as a nursery or hospital, or even a place to keep the group we have now while we re-build our existing coop. Since May of last year we went from almost 20 hens, 20 babies, 4 ducks and 1 rooster to 11 hens. Thanks to the local racoons. We now make sure that all of them are locked up at night, but the coons are slowly destroying our homemade coop. We would love to be able to put the girls in someplace safe while we fortify their existing home. Then we would have a great place to put the new babies we get once out of the brooder. Good luck to everyone.

  164. I have four baby girls coming from My Pet Chicken in the next couple of days. After inhaling the vast amount of information available on My Pet Chicken, I am confident and ready to be a new "mommy". Although I have accommodations ready for my new family members, it is not nearly as nice as the coop being offered!

  166. My go-to place for chicken information also is My Pet Chicken. I have ordered from them several times and I plan to again in the future. The coop is beautiful and even tho I have more than a few chickens now, it would make a wonderful transition coop for the little ones after they outgrow the brooder.

What a great contest, I could really use a chicken coop. I have 9 laying hens and bought 10 barred rock chicks. I get 6-7 brown eggs a day. My current coop is a real el cheapo. Its mad of plastic coated cardboard and we paid over $300 for it. My chickens spent the winter in the pole barn, but now that its spring they are staying in el cheapo.

  168. My girls would just love this coop, They have moved into the wood shead after watching one of thier sister fall pray to the neighborhood fox and will not come out. I do not blame them it was heart breaking. Cheryl~ cfigs2001@yahoo.com

  169. I love your blog! It's fun and friendly to read and very informative! I also love My Pet Chicken- those folks are wonderful! We have ordered twice from them now, to begin and then to add to our precious flock. I have talked with them on several occasions to help answer questions and curtail problems. You folks are my support system! I love my flock and couldn't do it without you guys! I have referred these two sites to many friends interested in having their own chickens.
What a great give-a-way! The coop would be a wonderful addition to help our flocks needs. Thanks for all you do, Patty (misspatty4@yahoo.com)

  176. I'm a first timer on this site. I found my way from the My Pet Chicken site. This is my new favorite site. I just bought some new "ladies" chickens they should be coming at the end of April, only to replace so of my older ladies who are getting up in the years. I also started a new hobby with my dad,Bees. We just shook our first set of bees, now a proud owners of 8,000 bees and a Queen. We are still in bee school at the Worcester County Bee Club, enjoying every min.I also have two horses and a Newfoundland who thinks she is a coach potato. So my yard is very busy but would not have it an other way. Look forward to talking to more on this site.

  177. Wow, I guess lots of people want a free coop! 450+!! My Pet Chicken was also the source of my first chickens!! they are great! This would let me expand my chicken flock and order more chickens! Melissa ~ mel (at) ccchfa.org

And, My Pet Chicken has been a wonderful resource for us as well; it's where we head first with our chicken questions. 186. This coop is amazing and is just perfect! My wife would absolutely love this for her chic-kids. Steve~polaris54313@gmail.com

  187. So, that only took a few hours ~(:>3)= but I found all 5! While the odds are stacking against me as all the other comments are pouring in, I persisted because I am so grateful for any window of opportunity when so many doors have been closed. Last year my daughter Madeline was diagnosed with high functioning autism, more specifically called Aspergers. If you do not know what that is, perhaps you have heard of Temple Grandin? She is a doctor of animal science who shares the same syndrome as my daughter, and funny enough, animals are Madelines "narrowed interest" as well. Madeline calls herself a "Birder" and keeps a "birding" notebook where she pasts photos of birds and writes notes about them. I learn things I never knew about birds from my 8yr old! Many consider her syndrome a disability but her doctor says shes a natural born specialist. Madeline's birthday is April 15th and she will be 9yrs, so it would be *amazingly good timing* if we would be so fortunate to win that chicken coop on the 16th! We have a large lot suitable for chickens and are allowed up to 6. We also believe the way of the future is "Urban Homesteading" and its not complete without chickens. For now we have a chicken lady who we visit and get fresh eggs from and NOTHING compares to a fresh "home grown" egg 🙂 All we are missing is a coop for everything else to fall into place so I guess if its meant to be it will be, we will just have to wait and see! – Alissa at alissa.askins@gmail.com – Thanks for your consideration

  188. Wow, this looks like such a great coop for our new flock o' chicks! We are just starting…only had chicks for 1 week. We lost 2 out of the 8, but I guess that happens. My hubby is building a coop to look similar to yours, but another one would be great and we could get some more chicks. Love the coop! -amy.nurseratchet@gmail.com

  189. I am very excited to receive my first order of chicks next week! I value all the information sources provided by other chicken keepers. I would love to win it…. give the older chicks a little more room! Thanks Tilly's Nest for giving it away! Now i just have to find all the little chickens…… ~(:>3)= (<<<cute btw!)

  192. I am amazed that so many people have a chicken story! I saw nothing but smiles and request for eggs when I asked my neighbors if they would mind if I built a coop.
I am very excited to share my chicken experiences with my 5 year old son, and I look forward to reading more about your family experiences with Ms. Tilly and the rest of the flock on this site/blog.
Thank you for the handy tips and the play by play of the chicken world, all of which bring my family closer together. Thank You SOOOO Much!

  199. Charlene Charkbuvel@verizon.net Our coop is "handcrafted" 🙂 and while the kids are very proud of their hard work, an addition of four new hens has left them a little cramped at night. They are aspiring to raise chicks later this spring/summer, and I have told them they have to build a new broody coop first. They haven't started. 😉 Would love to surprise them!! And Ms. Puff, Little Fluff, Blue, Turkey Lurkey, Delaware, Pin Yin, and Big Mamma thank you for your entertaining and informative blog!

  200. We LOVE this site! Almost as much as we love our chickens! We have found so many tips, and helpful how too's, my kids love the pictures and i love the recipes and reading all the experiences! Even if i have had a rotten day at work scrolling through the site always puts me in a great mood! Keep up the wonderful work, it is nice to share the love of chickens with so many other people! Hanging with our peeps! samantha foreverhaven@aol.com

  201. You have given me the courage and confidence to pursue my dream of raising backyard chickens. Your blog and My Pet Chicken have opened up a world of knowledge and joy for me. I have a small flock of birds but am unable to obtain a coop for them.

In order to keep them safe from predators, every night I carry them in the house one by one and have them sleep in a makeshift playpen until morning. Then I carry them back outside.

I am on a fixed income and there isn't the possibility of obtaining a coop any time soon. I would be so appreciative to have my birds housed in comfort outside in a comfortable and safe coop–and I would sleep well every night knowing that they are safely contained.

Thank you so much. Sue ~ suefischer@hotmail.com

  202. What a great chicken coop! I have my first baby chick, raising it for my little granddaughter, and would love to add a couple of more if I win it! Would love to win this coop! Just what we need. Tammy. jackandtammy@cox.net

I was hooked after a 30 minute conversation with Les 🙂 I have 3 boys under 8 and we are so excited to get our girls in a couple weeks…3 Rhode island reds, 2 white silkies, and 2 black silkies arriving in Iowa soon! Yeah! This coop would be awesome for our new additions and make my hubs a happy man as he gets out of a little building for me. Great contest! Congrats to whoever wins! Hopefully the Hansen family… 😉 Jess & my house full of chicken loving boys- jesshansen21@gmail.com

  251. I just found your site through My Pet Chickens and I would be thrilled to win this GORGEOUS coop!! I love Silkies too but had to place my sweet pets in a new home when I left California and moved into an apartment in Sarasota Florida. I now own a home with a lovely backyard and really want to find some Silkie hens … and what a home that coop would make!! I did educational outreach with my Silkies when I lived in California and do the same for for a local bird club here. My Silkies were the perfect education birds and I would love to have some sweet Silkies again … they are the best!! Knock on wood, winning this coop would be heaven sent.
