Melissa Caughey lives in Cape Cod Massachusetts with her family, Miniature Schnauzer, a flock of backyard chickens and tends to two backyard beehives. She is an avid gardener of vegetables and perennials and served as the Project Coordinator, designer and leader for a large schoolyard organic garden. Since 2010, she has been teaching gardening at the school to over 400 students, fellow volunteers and community members. She also serves on her town's local Agricultural Commission. Throughout the year, she can also be found encouraging new chicken keepers by teaching introductory classes on keeping chickens. Melissa is also an antique collector, cook, decorator, photographer and crafter whose blog, Tilly's Nest, was recently the recipient of
Country Living Magazine's Blue Ribbon Blogger Award and named Blogger's Blog of Note on January 2, 2012. She has over 10,000 avid fans of her adventures on her blog and various social media. She has
written for
Popular Farming: Chickens and when not writing on her own blog, you can find Melissa blogging on a regular basis for
HGTV Gardens, Community Chickens and
Grit Magazine as well as a contributor to
Country Living Magazine online. She is the Technical Editor for an upcoming "Dummies" book. Melissa is currently working with her publisher on a book of her own. In her other life, Melissa is a nurse practitioner.
