Chickens Stories from Our Nest

Meet Sara

Last Saturday, we picked up the newest addition to our family, a Miniature Schnauzer.  My son named her Sara.  She is such a love and is a very good little girl.  We are so happy to have a dog back in the house.  I am also looking forward to her getting to know Tilly and the girls come warmer weather.  For now, they have glanced at one another from a distance.  Initially, when the chickens would see her outside, they would sound the alarm.  Confused, jealous or a bit nervous, Tilly and the girls wanted me to know their feelings.  I am looking forward to training her to be sweet little guard dog for the chickens.
Tomorrow I am headed to the biggest poultry show in New England, The Northeastern Poultry Congress.  I will be attending with a few other chicken friends. If you happen to be there, meet me near the mini-snack bar at lunch.  Be sure to introduce yourself!  I would love to meet you in person.

Hello friends, welcome! Follow along on our chicken, beekeeping, gardening, crafting and cooking adventures from Cape Cod.

  • What a cutie! :) Is she a from a breeder or a rescue? Schnauzers are lovely dogs and i can't wait to read more about her!

    • Thanks. Our last two dogs were from a rescue. However, because of having two little kids, I wanted to know the dog's baggage if any, so we went with a breeder this time.

  • Sara is adorable!

  • Oh my goodness! Sara is ADORABLE!! Love her coloring!
What a fun addition to your home! Enjoy!

  • She is a cutie! Hope she turns out to be a good guard dog for the chickens :)

  • She is precious!

  • Sara is so sweet, can't wait to read about her adventures! I had a little boy who was half-Schnauser and half-Poodle, and he was a little gentleman. He lived to be 16 and was a wonderful companion. Best Wishes!

  • She is adorable Melissa!

  • My inlaws have the same breed and she is the sweetest best little dog.

How beautiful miss sara is! I'm excited to hear about her stories of puppydom! Will you keep her trimmed to breed standards or let her get scruffy? (scruffy schnauzers always make me giggle)

  • OH my favorite! We had a mini schnauzer growing up, such a good dog! His name was Benji (guess that sort of dates me too lol)

  • What a little beauty! I never really wanted a dog – until I met Birdie in September, our now-6-month-old pup. It was love at first sight. Many happy bonding days to you and your sweet girl!

  • Holy cute! Congratulations!!

  • How sweet :)
