Down Home~Number 1

For years I have enjoyed visiting and meeting so many wonderful people and making new friends through blogging.  If you know me by now, you know that I love "nesting".  I love creating and sharing from the heart.  I also know that I am not alone.  Tilly's Nest has been a culmination of me sharing what I enjoy the most.  I love to share my flock of chickens with you, the gardens, recipes and our newest adventure of keeping bees.   As another way to interact with our friends, I have created our very own blog hop where you can share what you have been up to "down home".

This blog hop is all about things that bring happiness to your life.  Tell us about your pets, things you have made, favorite recipes, decorating, your stories, new ideas, things you'd like to try, antiquing, gardening, bees, chickens, ducks, horses, goats, crafts, sewing projects and the like.  The choice is entirely up to you!

One of the things that I have been exploring this week is the art of pickling.  I must confess that I do love anything pickled from Kimchi to a wonderful Italian Giardiniera.  I've been reading The Pickled Pantry by Andrea Chesman.  I think this is going to really help me to take the leap of faith and start pickling things on my own.  Even for a beginner like me, she makes everything seem doable.   In all of 300 pages she covers how to pickle everything!  She covers how to do traditional canning in a water bath, refrigerator pickling as well as freezer pickling.  Now that the kids are back in school, I think I am going to tackle some of these recipes this week!  First up, Napa Cabbage and Carrot Kimchi, Refrigerator Quick Dills and maybe some Dill Pickled Eggs, goodness knows I have plenty of eggs.

Oh and one more thing, please remember to link back to this blog hop on your post.  Thanks a bunch!

  2. Ooo, I'd love to hear about pickling. I too want to try this. But then I read about botulism and I get scared. But my fruit trees are maturing and I'd love to make jams to have as gifts with all the fruit we will get.

  3. I like this blog hop, however, not sure how to link up without a button. I've tried a couple of times. Sorry...any ideas? My daughter - who helps me isn't here...when she comes home from school, I will have her help me. Thanks.

    1. Hi Dicky Bird. On the blue bar with the frog underneath the last person to link up is a button that says "Add Your Link". Click on that and enter your blog link, name and email address. Click next, then select a photo from your blog that you would like to use. I hope this helps. I can't wait to see what you share with us.

  4. Thanks for the great blog hop opportunity! Tilly's Nest is my favorite chicken site and I've learned so much reading through your engaging posts. I'm building a coop now and look forward to having 3-4 chickens in the near future.
For the blog hop I decided to post about my latest infatuation, homemade chevre. Thanks again!
